Can I edit my Profile Page?

Your profile page

Your Medium profile page is the place where people can find all your published stories, and where they can follow you to receive all your new stories right on their homepage.

Viewing your profile page

  1. On your homepage, click on   your profile picture.
  2. In the menu, click on your profile picture.

You can also go directly to medium.com/me to be redirected to your profile page. Please note that this is not your profile page URL.

Editing your profile name, picture, and bio

  1. On your homepage, click on   your profile picture.
  2. Click Settings from the menu.
  3. In the Profile section, you can:
    1. Change your display name to appear on your public profile of up to 25 characters.
    2. Enter a bio of up to 160 characters. It may include a link.
    3. Change your profile image by clicking the camera icon on your current profile picture and uploading an image from your device.

Accessing the profile page editor

Note: Profile design features are not supported on the Medium apps and mobile browsers. This option is only supported on desktop computers.

  1. On your homepage, click on   your profile picture.
  2. Click Settings from the menu.
  3. In the Design section, click Design your profile.

In the edit mode, you can click between Home and Story views in the top navigation bar to see how your changes reflect in each.

In the editor panel on the left side, you can:

  • Change your background and accent colors
  • Change your fonts
  • Customize publication homepage header
  • Turn on or off your blogroll

Changing your background and accent colors

In the editor panel on the left side of the page, click Colors to open the colors section, where you can change your profile’s accent color, as well as the color of your background.

Accent color
Color used for the buttons and links, such as the publication’s Follow button or the authors’ names on your stories.
Background color
Color of the page on all your posts.

Your font color will adjust for darker background colors automatically to retain accessibility for your readers.

If you don’t like your changes, click Reset color from the color picker dropdown at the bottom to return to the previous color selection.

Changing your fonts

Click the Fonts section in the editor panel on the left side of the page to open the font options. Medium currently support three fonts, which you can apply to your story titles, details, and body.

Titles
Font used for story titles.
Details
Font used for story subtitles, publish date, author name, eyebrows, and headings.
Body
Font used in the body of your posts.

Customizing your profile header

Click Header in the design editor panel on the left side to open customization options for your profile header.

Changing the size and position of your name, bio, and Follow button

In the header layout options, you can:

  • Change the horizontal and vertical alignment of your name, bio, and Follow button
  • Change the size of your name, bio, and Follow button

Applying an image or color to your header’s background

In the Background section, you can make the following changes:

  • Apply a color or image to your header’s background.
  • Choose between a solid image or color or a gradient overlay.
  • Adjust the display type and position of your image, if applicable.

Tip: If you’re adding an image, make sure to include alt text as well.

You can also change the story page’s header background color in this window. Click over to the story view to see the changes.

Adding a logo or customizing your display name

In the Name section of the header dropdown, you can add and adjust a logo for your publication. If you don’t have a logo to upload, you can edit the color and size of your display name here instead.

Tip: When adding a logo, upload it as a .PNG file so that its background is transparent.

If you are using a logo, you can choose to carry it over to display on your story header or simply uncheck “Show logo on Story header” if you’d prefer to display your display name as text.

Finally, you can edit the color and position of your profile bio in the Bio section. Choose one of the options.

Header
Displays your profile bio directly on your header, below your display name or logo.
Sidebar
Displays your profile bio on the left hand side of your profile page, about half way down the page.

Blogroll

Select Show your blogroll in the Blogroll section of your design page to automatically show a list of writers and publications you follow, sorted by who has most recently published.

Blogrolls are turned off by default. At this time, you can’t choose what accounts to show in your blogroll.

Pinning stories on your profile page

You can pin stories on your profile page to always have them at the top of the feed.

  1. On your profile page, click the  three-dot button on the lower right hand side of the story card.
  2. Choose Pin story from the menu.

You can pin up to five stories at a time, and the most recently pinned piece will have top priority.

Pinned stories appear only on your profile page on desktop. Mobile apps don’t support pinned stories at this time.

Customize your About content

You can to tell readers more about yourself in a longer, more structured format.

  1. On your profile page, click About on the navigation bar. If logged in, you can go to medium.com/me/about.
  2. If you’ve never added your About content, click Get started to start adding content. If you’d like to edit your About content, click Edit to start editing the content body.
  3. Click Save when you are done to save your changes.

Basic formatting

  • Bold: Select the text you want to format to open the text toolbar and click the B button to apply the formatting.
  • Italics: Select the text you want to format to open the text toolbar and click the i button to apply the formatting.
  • Links: Select the text you want to convert into a link to open the text toolbar, click on the chain icon 🔗 in the toolbar to hyperlink the selected text, paste or type in a link (e.g., medium.com), and press Enter.

Headers

  • Headers: To set a header, select any text that isn’t the title or subtitle and click the large “T” icon.
  • Subheaders: To set a subheader, select any text that isn’t the title or subtitle and click the small “T” icon.

Adding images

  1. On your post, go to a new line and click the Camera button on the left.
  2. Upload an image in either .jpg or .png format from your desktop.
